NIVIA Sports Project II

- Circular Goal -

3D Material Mural for NIVIA Sports, Jalandhar

Circular Goal

Mural, material collage, interactive, site - specific project for NIVIA 2019 by Dagmar I. Glausnitzer-Smith 400 x 200 cm wall space

Based on the process oriented making of the artwork  – Circular Goal –, as a mural pays tribute to the workers at NIVIA  SPORTS,  who have participated in the development of the art work and simultaneously have been previously handling the materials by being involved with the production of NIVIA goods: gloves, sports balls, sports garments, shoes, bags etc.

The materials are purposely collected and found on locations of SV Sport Shoes, NIVIA Synthetics and NIVIA Sports as they are left-overs from the line of production. The artwork intentionally draws upon the aspect of recyclable objects to become the pallet for color composition, shapes and forms. The method will be based on hand-stitching which is also a valued feature in the production of footballs by NIVIA.

During the process employees will spend some time together with the artist to help and apply their stitching abilities to become part of completion of the mural. The center of the work is marked by a blank sphere. (representing the potential for an ‘open’, unknown change of perspective and the basic shape of the sports ball itself).

Live Performance Actions in public space

Wipe and Gone (Wisch und Weg) -

Durational situation 2 - 3 hours at chosen public street map, outside location after environmental enquiries

A political level remains to a large extent, symbolic, and the situation reveals the urgency that a vast potential with its impact of the moving body conquers the presence of communication, to reveal a grammar of body existence in the public eye, questioning the participatory role of artist and viewer. Enticing an economy of intellectual investment to the moment when the object and the location begin to enter the dialogue.

Mowing Dhaka 2019

 - A partnership with Life and its encounter with individuality and the magic of hidden tracks

 - A conversation with Self even when a ‘fountain’ appears in darkness and the absence of light deludes the power of perception to sustain that moment of ambiguity and un-knowing.

The live performance offers an opportunity to bring the template of clarity and void into the foreground.

Live Performance, - overleft leaves (umblättern) -

….for a moment the space functions as an ark (Latin origin, the chest) with a particular arrangement and infusing the potential of significant selections towards peculiar relations…

In the light of the installation occurs an imaginary resurrection of images from the personal memory bank taking shape beyond the assumed physical borders. It is the power of natural survival through the intertwined source of origin between countries and cultures.  How much can the viewer as impassive participant know? Archival signs conjoin the presence of several collections, which means that the temporal aspects being addressed are bypassed in the flux of actions.

The heap of things being present and the idea of several notions of displacements undermine the knowledge of source materials and their indicative signs of presence. This is assumed in the absence of appropriation or with the conscious confrontation of appropriated positions.

The installation character spins a territory, harvested in detail from different cultural processes and specifications, i.e. Serbia and Bangladesh, Novi Sad and Dhaka.

The action is the moment of gathering, and creating a non-real fabric of fusion and the possibility of alignment and through the haptic material of paper surfaces to represent the tactile interface of drawing and the potential of lasting object-hood.

Live Performance - Nachrichten an den Berg - (messages to the mountain)

Konzept DE:

Concept EN:

About the thoughts on the performance: “The paper turned out to be completely white, white and yet not empty, a whiteness that one could reach into, like cold snow or like sticky white paint, a white abundance and absolutely nothing can penetrate it, instead the surface offers the potential words for writing, forming thoughts and open diffferent perspectives..."

Glausnitzer-Smith has been exploring paper, the paper roll and the prospective of its machinations in several live performances. The material proves to be a challenge, in which a “blank slate” reveals itself to be more of a risk and hesitation.

In action with body and movement the white paper is witness to inner ground curves turning outwards, as the mountain resembles a curve on a flat landscape.

Live Performance DE:

Live Performance EN:

The performance is a juxtaposition of body, movement and in this case, the paper as a seemingly 'blank slate'. In the performance, the body encounters the silence of space and time as well as the potential of the apparent empty surface. In this encounter and the presence of different installation objects, the artist is testing the unexpected situation.

The action is a rejoinder and transformation of circumstances occuring in the moment.

The relationship between body and object is hidden in the moving image and is transported into an unpredictable framework of space and time.

The performance seems to transgress the framework. It is like breathing life into things. The metaphysical vocabulary not only stimulates the mind, it creates a dimension that is translated into energy.

Unknown forces combine the sensitivity and awareness of body movement which culminates in a moment. The situation is in the process of development with an attempt to overtake oneself

and redirecting one's conditioned thinking, as if the process was drowning in the ABSURD.

Live Performance at MIle Zero

… It’s cup for the other (uptime and downtime)

idea excerpt:

The Live Action with its movement in a given location is equipped with several attempts of semiotic defiance and uncertainty. Formations of the body’s action maneuver in unstructured, pre-defined territories between thought, intuition and impulse. Multiple exchange of uncontrollable energy investment tests the momentary engagement with the spirit-mind grasp of materials as objects.

Zero Gravity could be at the pivotal of the indetermination of presupposed laws of gravitation, which at the center of a philosophical quest could determine a physical image and function of the planet earth.   This image in any case is impossible to imagine as a whole. Thus its parts become a larger unknown factor to be visualized. There is defiance of attraction observed in space. Some of the prerequisites are the existence of matter noticeable by gravitation.
